Old Sol Carbide Lamp Generator by Hawthorne

An early 20th-century "Old Sol" carbide generator, manufactured by the Hawthorne Mfg. Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. This piece is constructed of plated metal in two cylindrical sections, a water canister above and a carbide chamber below, held together by an integrated hinged clamp with two wing nuts. The body is stamped "OLD SOL / MADE IN U.S.A. BY / HAWTHORNE / MFG. CO. / BRIDGEPORT, CONN.".
