Antique oak front wooden California job case letterpress drawer featuring eighty-nine compartments and a central black metal cup pull handle. Circa 1900s. Exhibiting age-appropriate wear and authentic patina, it is ideal for display. 32 1/8 x 16 5/8 x 1 1/2 in Collector's Note: Before the California Job Case, printers used two separate wooden trays: The Upper Case (held capital letters on a rack above). The Lower Case (held small letters on a rack below). This dual-case layout is the direct origin of the terms "uppercase" and "lowercase" that we still use in typography today!
