Matching pair of large Chinese export porcelain fish bowls featuring hand-painted European equestrian hunting scenes. The exterior displays a gilded cobalt blue ground with scrollwork, while the interior is decorated with goldfish. Bases bear red apocryphal Qianlong seal marks. In good pre-owned vintage pre-owned condition. 14t x 18d in Collector's Note: Produced by mid-20th-century Chinese export workshops, this design revives a historical 18th-century tradition where Canton artisans copied European sporting engravings for Western merchants. Popularized during the Qianlong era, the style blends Western equestrian subject matter with traditional Chinese porcelain decoration. This revival features detailed foxhunting scenes framed by striking, heavily-gilded cobalt blue scrollwork, while the interior's painted goldfish traditionally symbolize abundance and harmony.
