Because cast iron was too brittle and heavy for a bumpy wagon ride, rugged pioneers swore by these ultra-durable, lightweight sheet iron beauties that could survive a fall and heat up over a campfire in seconds flat.But wait, there is more! This stunning skillet is paired with a beautifully primitive forged iron and wood boot scraper or steps apparatus, complete with dual tension springs. It is giving "1880s ranch-house chic" and makes an incredible decorative statement piece. It is marked Anchor Mfg Co. on the bottom. The Anchor Manufacturing Company of Piqua, Ohio specialized in creating wooden and iron steps that were mounted beneath the floorboards or doors of horse-drawn carriages, buggies, and wagons to give riders a secure foot-hold when climbing into the cabin.
