A set of six polychrome woodblock prints (nishiki-e) on paper featuring various bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women) and domestic scenes in the style of the late Edo period. The collection includes a depiction of two women signed Kuninao ga (Utagawa Kuninao); a woman gathering shells on a beach signed Ipposai Yoshifuji ga (Utagawa Yoshifuji); a woman from the Seven Komachi series signed Kochoro Kunisada ga (Utagawa Kunisada) with a Toshidama seal; a scene of two women with a fan; a print of a man and woman signed Eizan hitsu (Kikukawa Eizan); and a woman fishing for a crab near a stream signed Gototei Kunisada ga (Utagawa Kunisada). Each print is housed behind glass in a terracotta-colored mat and a matching mid-20th-century wood frame with a faux bamboo finish. The backings consist of cardboard secured with metal staples. Measurements read from a tape measure: Frame: approx. H 17 1/8 in x W 13 1/8 in. Condition: The paper exhibits age-related toning and areas of minor scattered foxing. Colors appear generally stable with expected light-fading consistent with age. Frames show minor surface wear, scuffs, and small losses to the finish. The cardboard backings exhibit significant acidic discoloration and age. The glass on the crab fishing print has a small surface mark.
