1838 Coronet Head Matron Copper One Cent EF-40 1838 Coronet Head Matron Head Copper One Cent EF-40 This 1838 Coronet Head Matron Head copper large cent is a remarkable survivor from early American coinage, presented in Extremely Fine EF-40 condition. The obverse features the classic Matron Head design facing left, encircled by thirteen stars and the 1838 date, while the reverse displays the traditional laurel wreath surrounding the One Cent denomination. This copper piece exhibits strong detail in Liberty's hair and the coronet, with clear lettering and defined wreath leaves on the reverse. The coin possesses a pleasing dark chocolate brown patina consistent with its age and copper composition. As a significant representative of pre-Civil War US currency, this large cent offers excellent eye appeal for collectors seeking a high-grade example of the final years of the Matron Head design series. 1838 Coronet Head Matron Head Copper One Cent EF-40 Condition: This specimen is graded as Extremely Fine 40 (EF-40), exhibiting light wear on the highest points of the design while maintaining sharp overall details.
