Porcelain canard pique-fleurs, glazed and painted. Attributed to Pablo Picasso (1881–1973). Formed as an elongated avian-inspired vessel with a narrow neck, curved handle, and bulbous body, decorated with bold linear motifs in dark blue, green, and brown against a beige ground, the piece reflects Picasso’s mature Madoura ceramic vocabulary, defined by whimsical figuration, graphic surface drawing, and inventive reinterpretation of functional pottery. Signed Picasso 22/50 Madoura, indicating a limited edition produced in collaboration with the Madoura Pottery in Vallauris. Comparable avian-form vessels, floral holders, and boldly painted ceramic works appear in the Musée National Picasso–Paris, the Musée Magnelli–Musée de la Céramique in Vallauris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, all holding ceramics that share similar sculptural humor and graphic invention.
