J. Adul, Mid-20th Century Still Life Oil on Canvas

This mid-20th-century decorative still life painting is an oil on stretched canvas depicting a traditional arrangement of a straw-wrapped Chianti bottle, a cluster of blue-black grapes, a green apple, a textured yellow fruit, and cherries. The artist utilized visible brushwork and thick impasto highlights to create volume and texture on the subjects. The work is signed J. ADUL in the lower right corner. It is housed in an ornate, dark-stained carved wood frame with a beige linen liner and a narrow inner wood slip. 17.5 x 16 inches.The paint surface exhibits heavy craquelure throughout, most notably in the dark background and the grapes. The beige linen liner shows light discoloration and minor foxing. The carved wooden frame has minor surface scuffs and shelf wear consistent with age.
