Estimate: 1 / 1000 Two nineteenth-century New York reference works, including an 1862 presentation copy of Valentine's Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York and an 1846 Manual for the Use of the Legislature of the State of New York belonging to Assemblyman Thomas Skelton. Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York 1862 ("Valentine's Manual"). Presentation copy inscribed by the printer, Edmund Jones. A richly illustrated volume with more than 30 color lithographic plates (many folding), numerous black-and-white illustrations, Civil War scenes of New York regiments departing for service, fold-out views of Central Park, and extensive information on New York City's government, institutions, and history. Rebound in red buckram. Frontispiece portrait and folding map of New York City lacking; several non-lithographic foldouts with tears and occasional light staining, binding cracked in places with several loose signatures, but holding. Text clean and most plates bright. Overall in near very good condition. Manual for the Use of the Legislature of the State of New York for 1846. Originally issued to Assembly member Thomas Skelton of Oswego County, with his name gilt on the binding. Includes folding Assembly and Senate seating charts and a large folding hand-colored map of New York State by J. Calvin Smith (1845). The Assembly seating chart is torn and incomplete, the Senate chart torn but complete, and the map has a marginal tear; otherwise internally clean with light scattered foxing. Binding shows moderate wear but remains sound. Overall in good condition.
