A colorful pair of joined robe sleeve panels from the 19th century that depict Chinese beauties in a garden with buildings, flowers, trees, boating. The pair of beige silks have been embroidered in colorful satin stitch with a design of women in a garden and women boating. The panels were joined to make one panel and then framed with a silk brocade edged with a pale blue silk trim. The panel on the back is a coarsely woven blue cloth. MEASUREMENTS 22 ¼" (56.5 cm) tall x 10 ¼" (26.0 cm) wide. Weighs 1.9 oz (50 g) CONDITION The threads on the sleeve panels are still quite bright and are mostly tight. There are a few threads near the base and on one of the buildings near the top. There is some staining especially near the base of the panel but there are other small stains throughout. The brocade surrounding the sleeve panels is quite worn, especially along the top and bottom. The pale blue trim along the brocade is loose and has unraveled in places. There was an old attempt at repairing it and so stitching is visible on the back. The blue cloth on the back is also stained. A pair of old Chinese silks. You might consider replacing the brocade border if you decide to frame it. The old sleeve panels are still in good condition, given the age. Period: 1900 - 1909 Origin: China Materials: Silk Dimensions: 10.25"W × 0.12"D × 22.25"H
