This neoclassical wall relief is a rectangular plaque made of painted plaster. The high-relief scene depicts a triumphal chariot procession featuring a warrior in a plumed helmet and Roman-style cuirass accompanied by a female figure holding the reins of three spirited, rearing horses. The piece is finished with a dark grey base paint overlaid with silver and bronze-toned metallic pigments to simulate aged metal. The reverse is hollow-cast plaster with a rough,hand-applied finish and includes a rusted metal hanging chain. 24 x 38 inches. Significant wear to the decorative finish with numerous areas of paint loss, flaking, and pocking revealing the white plaster beneath. Minor chips and abrasions are present along the perimeter.
