A mid-century modern four-drawer chest manufactured by the Vilas Furniture Company of Cowansville, Quebec. Constructed from solid rock maple, the piece features a rectangular top with a distinctive raised gallery back and sides displaying a scrolled profile. The case contains four full-width drawers, each fitted with two integrated, carved wooden handles of streamlined form. The side panels are equipped with horizontal wooden grab handles. The chest is supported by a shaped plinth base with a decoratively cut apron. The drawers exhibit dovetail construction. A circular branded mark is present to the interior of a drawer, featuring a stylized leaf motif and the cursive script reading by Vilas. Condition: Good condition. The finish retains a consistent lustre throughout. The surface displays minor scuffs and light scratches commensurate with age and domestic use, notably to the top surface. The structural integrity is sound.
