Vintage hardcover college textbook Introduction to Psychology by James O. Whittaker, North Dakota State University, published by W. B. Saunders Company, Philadelphia & London. The copyright page shows ©1965, with this copy identified as a May 1966 reprint with approximately 631 pages. The title page also credits contributing authors including Sir Frederic Bartlett, S. M. Luria, Russell Sergeant, Robert D. Meade, Muzafer Sherif, and Carolyn Sherif. This is a comprehensive mid-1960s introductory psychology textbook presenting psychology as a developing scientific discipline. It covers the foundations and history of psychology along with major areas such as human behavior, learning, perception, motivation, emotion, personality, intelligence, development, social behavior, abnormal psychology, and psychological research. An interesting feature is the illustrated timeline material tracing major milestones in psychology, from early philosophical ideas through the development of experimental psychology. As a 1960s textbook, it also has interest as a snapshot of how psychology was taught and understood during that period. Fair used condition. The original dark gray cloth hardcover is intact and the title and author lettering remain clearly readable, but there is substantial age and shelf wear. The boards have rubbing, scuffs and worn edges and corners; the spine ends and joints show heavier wear. The page edges have age toning, spotting and discoloration. Most importantly, staining and moisture damage along the lower portions of the front endpapers and preliminary pages, including brown areas and tide marks. There is also a small handwritten notation near the top of one preliminary page. The binding nevertheless is intact, and the pages shown remain readable.
