This is a cohesive group of mid-century psychology paperbacks covering family therapy, general psychology, and personality theory. The books date from the late 1960s/early 1970s and include work by several important figures in psychology, including Virginia Satir, George A. Miller, Richard Lazarus, Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Gordon Allport, and Raymond Cattell. Fair to Poor condition, varying by book. This collection includes: 1. Conjoint Family Therapy: A Guide to Theory and Technique, Revised Edition, by Virginia Satir, Science and Behavior Books, 1967. A classic early text on family therapy. Satir discusses family structure and relationships, self-esteem, mate selection, marital conflict, stresses affecting families, parent-child relationships, communication, verbal and nonverbal behavior, and practical therapeutic techniques. The contents run through three major sections: Family Theory, Communication Theory, and Theory and Practice of Therapy. Fair Condition. There is substantial age and use wear. Covers show rubbing, discoloration, creasing and worn corners/edges. There is previous-owner writing on the preliminary pages and visible pen checkmarks and notations visible on the contents page. Pages have moderate age toning, spotting and soiling. 2. Psychology: The Science of Mental Life by George A. Miller, Pelican/Penguin Books. An accessible history and introduction to psychology by influential cognitive psychologist George A. Miller. It traces psychology through figures and subjects including Wilhelm Wundt, William James, Francis Galton, Ivan Pavlov, Sigmund Freud and Alfred Binet, along with consciousness, perception, memory, animal behavior, child development, clinical psychology, communication and persuasion. Fair to Poor Condition. There is heavy cover and spine wear, substantial edge and corner wear, age toning, staining and soiling. Most importantly, the front portion shows significant tearing and paper loss, and the contents page contains extensive red and blue ink markings, circles and notes. There are also old markings and stamps on the preliminary pages. The binding appears usable, but this is clearly a heavily used reading copy. 3. Personality: Selected Readings, edited by Richard S. Lazarus & Edward M. Opton Jr., Penguin Modern Psychology. This copy states first published by Penguin Books in 1967 and reprinted in 1969, making this a 1969 printing. An anthology of important writings on personality psychology. The contents include selections from Gordon Allport, Robert Holt, Raymond Cattell, Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud, Robert White, Erik Erikson and others. Topics include personality traits and structure, individual differences, personality development, psychoanalytic theory and other theoretical and experimental approaches to personality. Poor Condition. The cover has heavy rubbing, creasing, scratches, edge wear and corner wear, with substantial wear around the spine. The page block is noticeably age-toned. I
