Title: Campbell's Tomato Soup Can with Figure Emerging Technique: Acrylic on canvas Measures: 18 x 13 inches (45.7 x 33.0 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good overall condition based on the photographs supplied, with clearly defined imagery, strong red and cream coloration, and visible variations in paint application. Minor surface irregularities and age-related wear may be present. The artwork is presented unframed. The reverse displays an aged canvas support secured to a dark wooden stretcher, with areas of discoloration, minor handling marks, and visible wear along the folded canvas edges. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Acquired by a foundation in 2011, the work was exhibited once in 2017. It was sold privately in 2023 to a private collector in the Middle East. Visual Description: A surreal interpretation of the familiar Campbell's condensed tomato soup can depicts a small male figure emerging from the container's open upper section, with both arms dramatically extended upward. The cylindrical can dominates the composition, displaying its recognizable red-and-cream packaging, white script lettering, and gold decorative emblem. The figure's expressive face and dark clothing contrast with the smooth commercial imagery, introducing a theatrical element to the composition. The restrained background emphasizes the central subject, while the juxtaposition of consumer packaging and figurative imagery evokes the visual vocabulary of Pop Art. A painted inscription reading “Andy Warhol” appears near the lower right corner. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
