Title: Yellow Composition with Red and Black Drip Patterns Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 39 x 59 inches (99.1 x 149.9 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition, with vibrant coloration, strong graphic contrast, and a dense network of overlapping drips, splashes, and gestural marks. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. The painted surface displays variations in pigment density and texture consistent with the composition's layered application. The reverse has not been examined. Condition is described from the photograph supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Sold from a gallery in 2010 to a private collector in Asia, the work remained there until 2018. It was then consigned to another gallery and sold the same year to a North American private collector, where it has stayed without further exhibition. Visual Description: A dynamic abstract composition presents an intricate network of black and deep red paint drips, splatters, and gestural lines distributed across a brilliant yellow background. Thick concentrations of dark pigment intersect with fine, threadlike strands, creating a complex interplay of movement, density, and open space. Irregular passages of crimson and burgundy emerge throughout the composition, introducing visual intensity and contrast against the dominant black linear structures. The overlapping layers of paint establish a rhythmic, all-over arrangement without a conventional focal point or recognizable subject. Sweeping diagonal movements, spontaneous splashes, and irregular pools of pigment create a sense of continuous motion across the expansive horizontal canvas. The vivid yellow ground remains visible between the intersecting marks, producing a luminous contrast that emphasizes the complexity of the painted surface. The composition reflects the expressive visual language of Abstract Expressionism and action painting, particularly the emphasis on gestural movement, spontaneous application, and the physical qualities of paint. A small inscription is visible near the lower-right edge. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
