C-21629

Table lamp fashioned from an authentic late nineteenth-century salt-glazed stoneware crock with hand-painted cobalt floral decoration. Included is a blue tapered lamp shade. The crock, dating to the post-Civil War period (1860s - 1890s), features a classic brown salt-glazed “orange peel” surface, applied lug handles, and freehand cobalt slip decoration. Crock is estimated to have been converted into a lamp during the mid-twentieth century.

Stoneware crock exhibits expected firing imperfections, light surface wear, and minor abrasions consistent with age. The wooden cap fitted into the crock is loose, causing the socket and lamp stem to have noticeable movement. Brown electrical cord and socket assembly exhibit age-related wear. Blue lampshade is structurally sound but displays several tears, scuffs, and losses to the outer covering along the upper rim as shown. Lamp is in working condition; bulb not included.

9.5" Diam x 27" H
