Quietly atmospheric with a strong decorative presence, this oil on canvas captures a secluded marsh or lakeside setting filled with tall reeds, reflective blue water, and softly colored trees receding toward hazy distant hills. The artist uses heavily textured, expressive brushwork throughout the grasses and foliage, building layers of rust, ochre, olive, burgundy, and muted gold around the cooler tones of the central waterway. The composition draws the eye naturally through the opening in the reeds toward the distant horizon, giving the scene a sense of depth and stillness. Signed C. Lewis in red at the lower right. Presented in a substantial molded frame with dark bronze and gilt-toned decorative detailing. The frame shows scattered scuffs and areas of separation, and the canvas appears to need attention at the stretcher corners/re-stretching or reinforcement. Overall, an appealing large-format decorative landscape with rich texture and warm transitional color. Sight measures 35.5" x 24". Frame measures 42" x 30.5".
