This original illustrative gouache painting on paper illustrates a vintage-style seed packet for sweet corn from Roundabush's Seed Store in Wilmington, North Carolina. The central composition features a detailed ear of yellow corn withvibrant green husks against a stark white field bordered by notched black corners. The work is housed in a dark green mat and a simple black frame. Signed and dated 'M. Fox 2012' in the lower right corner. 20 x 30.5 in. Overall very good condition. The frame exhibits a minor scuff at the lower-left corner; the artwork and matting appear well-preserved. Marilyn Fox is a Kutztown, Pennsylvania artist known for expressive contemporary and abstract painting. A graduate of Kutztown University, Fox spent 20 years as Gallery Director and Arts Coordinator at Penn State Berks, where she curated exhibitions and helped develop the college’s permanent art collection. Her career has also included art criticism, freelance work, and involvement in public art. Originally working primarily in oils and traditional landscapes and still lifes, Fox later developed a distinctive approach to nonobjective acrylic painting characterized by bold color, layered surfaces, and energetic mark-making. Her work is represented on Saatchi Art and is held in numerous institutional and private collections in the United States and abroad.
