This original gouache on paper depicts two vine-ripened tomatoes in a graphic advertising style. The composition features bold hand-lettering for the Tillinghast Seed Co. of La Conner, Washington. A cursive signature reading M Fox is located in the lower right. The work is presented in a modern black frame with a deep green mat and a Hobby Lobby verso label. 25 x 30.5 in. (frame). The artwork and matting appear in excellent condition. The verso backing paper shows a minor puncture and localized tearing at the lower right corner. Marilyn Fox is a Kutztown, Pennsylvania artist known for expressive contemporary and abstract painting. A graduate of Kutztown University, Fox spent 20 years as Gallery Director and Arts Coordinator at Penn State Berks, where she curated exhibitions and helped develop the college’s permanent art collection. Her career has also included art criticism, freelance work, and involvement in public art. Originally working primarily in oils and traditional landscapes and still lifes, Fox later developed a distinctive approach to nonobjective acrylic painting characterized by bold color, layered surfaces, and energetic mark-making. Her work is represented on Saatchi Art and is held in numerous institutional and private collections in the United States and abroad.
