Impressive Renaissance style *coffre de château* of substantial proportions, heavily carved throughout with elaborate architectural and classical ornament. The lift-top chest features a deeply carved façade centered by a figural medallion amid scrolling foliate motifs, flanked by sculptural figures and framed by egg-and-dart and gadrooned decoration. Further carving extends along the sides and lower frieze, giving the piece a commanding, architectural presence. A dramatic statement piece inspired by the grand carved furnishings of European château interiors. Carving is deep and largely intact. The lid is faded and dry, with scuffs along the base. 38”H x 65”W x 30”D
