Marshall and over 2700 woodcut illustrations of plants in text. [18], 1755, [1 errata] pp. Contemporary calf with early reback, 6 raised bands. Provenance: Antonius Oughton ?D--- (contemporary ink signature); James Russell (armorial bookplate). ESTC S121875. First edition of this exhaustive and profusely illustrated botanical work, the greatest and most influential of its era. Condition Lacking pp 615/16 and 621/22, old marginal dampstaining to title and first several leaves, frontispiece wrinkled, errata leaf unevenlly toned and worn at top edge, a few stray spots of foxing but a largely clean copy internally; early reback to style, headband partially torn, cracking to joints with cords exposed, some scuffing and wear to boards.
