AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Group of 14 totally handmade red beeswax taper candles, each measuring 12" long x 1" in diameter. Each candle is formed from rolled sheets of beeswax displaying the characteristic raised honeycomb pattern, with the wax wrapped by hand around the central wick. The bases narrow slightly for simple placement into a standard candle cup or holder. Beeswax has been prized for candle making for centuries because it burns cleanly, produces a warm flame, and naturally carries the mild honey-like scent associated with the wax. The familiar rolled honeycomb-style candle developed from the use of embossed beeswax foundation sheets originally produced for beekeeping. By the late 19th century, mechanically embossed foundation made sheets of beeswax with a uniform honeycomb pattern readily available, and the same material became popular for hand-rolled decorative and household candles. Unlike molded or dipped tapers, these are made by carefully rolling warmed sheets of beeswax around a wick, leaving the distinctive cellular surface fully visible. This traditional handcraft method became especially popular for home, church, holiday, and colonial-style decorative use. CONDITION REPORT > Several may have been lit once very briefly, but there are no visible trails of melted wax running down the sides.
