Description American Civil War sword. The ricasso stamp clearly reads "HAYDEN & WHILDEN / CHARLESTON". Thomas Griswold Confederate Artillery Saber / Light Cavalry Saber. Confederate swords with a verified "Hayden & Whilden" stamp are extraordinarily scarce, with only a handful known to survive in advanced public or private military collections. Augustus Hayden and William Whilden operated a prominent jewelry and military outfitting firm located at 250 King Street in Charleston, South Carolina. Following South Carolina's secession in December 1860.
