1883-CC GSA Hoard Uncirculated Morgan Dollar

The 1883-CC GSA Hoard Uncirculated Morgan Dollar is one of the most iconic and highly collected silver dollars in American numismatics. Struck from silver mined from Nevada's famous Comstock Lode, it bears the historic "CC" mint mark of the Carson City Mint. The phrase "GSA Hoard" refers to a massive stash of over 3 million uncirculated Carson City silver dollars discovered tucked away in U.S. Treasury vaults in the 1960s. Out of the 1,204,000 total coins minted in 1883, an incredible 755,518 coins (over 62%) were found in this hoard. Because they spent decades protected in government canvas bags, the vast majority survived in remarkable Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. Between 1972 and 1980, the General Services Administration (GSA) sold these coins to the public encased in distinctive rigid, black-framed GSA hard pack holders accompanied by a box and a certificate of authenticity. Because thousands of these packages were later broken open by collectors wanting to traditional-slab their coins, keeping the coin intact within its original GSA government holder adds significant pedigree and market value.
