This device is a Nikon MD-4 Motor Drive, which is a specialized professional photography accessory manufactured during the 1980s exclusively for the Nikon F3 series of 35mm SLR film cameras. The primary purpose of this unit is to thread directly onto the bottom of the camera body to automate the mechanical film advancement and rapidly re-arm the physical shutter mechanism immediately after a photo is taken.
