This diverse grouping of nineteenth-century sewing accessories features four distinct clamps, including three metal sewing birds and one hand-carved maple wood clamp with a red velvet-covered cylinder. The metal birds, varying in material from cast iron to brass, feature spring-loaded bills designed to hold fabric taut. The collection is further enhanced by a miniature book-form tape measure with a green and red embossed cover, two composition football-shaped needle cases, two acorn-shaped glass containers, a thimble, and a brass cylindrical pen nib holder containing three steel nibs. One nib is stamped with the words PALO ALTO and VERTICAL. The metal birds display expected surface oxidation and loss of gilding. One top is detached. The wooden clamp shows minor scuffs. The tape measure exhibits edge wear and discoloration to the cloth tape.
