During the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, Robert Peter Gale offered his expertise in bone marrow transplants to the USSR, for the victims of the irradiation caused by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. He also assisted Drs Alexander Buranov and Angelina Guskova at Moscow's Hospital No. 6, a public hospital specializing in the treatment of radiation-related diseases. Robert Peter Gale is a physician and researcher who contributed to the understanding of immune-mediated anti-leukemic effects of transplants (graft-versus-leukemia). He also contributed to understanding other complex immune effects of transplants in humans.
