Robert Percival (1924-1995), mixed media, “Concern”, 16” x 21.5”, signed and dated lower right, 89 (framed). Robert Percival (1924–1995) was a British-born Canadian artist based in Saint John, New Brunswick. Active from the 1960s onward, he became an important presence in the regional art community, working across multiple media including painting, sculpture, and mixed media. He is particularly noted for his finely detailed watercolours as well as his exploration of abstraction. Percival’s artistic style blended traditional techniques with modern concepts. His work often featured bold, vivid colours and dynamic compositions, exploring themes of nature, environment, and human experience. While some of his paintings embraced abstraction, many of his watercolours demonstrated meticulous detail and a strong sense of structure and atmosphere. In 1971, Percival published Town: Popsters and Celebrities through the New Brunswick Museum, further establishing his reputation within the province’s cultural landscape. Other known works include Chandelier in the Loft and a number of often untitled watercolour scenes that reflect his distinctive visual approach.
