Alice Brunton Hoskins (1918–2016), watercolour, "Interior", 13.5" x 10", signed and dated lower left, 03 (framed). Alice Brunton Hoskins (1918–2016) was a Canadian artist, teacher, writer, curator, and arts patron who made a significant contribution to the arts in Nova Scotia. Born in Montreal, she studied under Group of Seven artist Arthur Lismer before moving to Halifax in 1974 to study at NSCAD. An accomplished watercolourist, Hoskins became particularly associated with the Antigonish area and its landscape. She also worked with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and supported arts education and cultural activities throughout the province. Her lasting legacy includes the Alice Hoskins Gallery of International Art at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
