Murdo MacLeod (DA – Scottish), oil on board, "Family Talk", 20" x 25", signed lower right (framed). From a private Nova Scotia Collector. Murdo MacLeod is a Scottish artist whose practice encompasses landscape painting, figure studies and works inspired by the people, places and character of Scotland. His work demonstrates a strong understanding of composition, drawing and colour, combined with a confident and expressive handling of paint. MacLeod is particularly recognized for his Scottish landscape paintings, depicting a variety of locations throughout Scotland, from the rugged Highlands to the more pastoral landscapes of Perthshire, Angus and Fife. His approach combines carefully constructed compositions with a fluid, impressionistic treatment of light, colour and atmosphere. An accomplished draughtsman, MacLeod's figure studies form an important part of his artistic output. These works demonstrate his understanding of the human form, with particular attention given to pose, gesture and movement. His confident brushwork and sensitivity to light give the figures a distinctive sense of presence and character. MacLeod has also produced a number of works as limited-edition prints, reflecting the continuing appeal of his paintings to collectors.
