Alex De. Andreis 1880-1929 oil painting of a cavalier in a red coat and brimmed black hat holding a sword. 24" X 20". Framed. Note: Some craquelure. Alex de Andreis (1880–1929) was a Belgian-born painter associated with Britain, best known for richly atmospheric genre scenes depicting figures in 17th- and 18th-century costume. His subjects include cavaliers, musketeers, military figures, tavern interiors, and elegant historical settings. De Andreis employed confident brushwork and subtle handling of light and colour to create highly decorative and romanticized scenes of the past. His paintings have continued to appear regularly at international auctions, including in Canada.
