Some Notes About This Unique Estate Dixon Hood’s life reflected a distinguished devotion to country, community, family, and public service. Born in 1922 Tennessee, he graduated High School in 1940 and served his nation during the World War II Pacific Theater, rising to the rank of First Sergeant. Married in 1947 & later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Western Kentucky University, where he was recognized as an outstanding student. He later established himself as a respected public accountant before embarking on a consequential career in public service. As Chairman of the County Court, Judge Hood devoted himself to the welfare and advancement of the people he served, overseeing efforts to improve the community and it's needs and welfare with results. Historic newspaper photographs from his years in office document active involvement, and establishing funds for public improvements to helping secure better emergency response. His service also extended to the County’s youth, including supporting and engaging plans for a youth group home and so much more during his career. Hood’s civic commitment reached beyond the courthouse through his involvement with the Rotary Club, V.F.W., American Legion, library, church, and regional development efforts. In 1953, the United States Jaycees honored him with its Distinguished Service Award, recognizing his dedication to serving others.
