Alexander the Great.

L:3.4cm W:2.7cm Wt:8.25g

Obverse: Alexander the Great with ram's horns. Reverse: Athena wearing an Attic helmet, seated upon a throne. In one hand she holds Nike bearing a wreath, while the other rests upon a shield decorated with the Gorgon Medusa's head. The silver coin of Alexander the Great with ram's horns ranks among the most famous Ancient Greek coinage, issued by Lysimachus, King of Thrace and a bodyguard of Alexander the Great. According to legend, after conquering Egypt, Alexander visited the Temple of Amun at the Siwa Oasis, where an oracle proclaimed him the son of Amun. The ram's horns on Alexander's portrait on this coin symbolise his status as the semi-divine descendant of Zeus-Amun.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.

Additional photographs and condition reports may be provided upon request as a courtesy only.
