WATERPAINT ON CANVAS.

Image Size: 28 7/8 by 23 5/8 inches (73.5 by 60 cm) All measurements are approximate.

Signed (reverse) Lucio Fontana was an Italian-Argentine artist best known as the founder of the Spatialism movement, which sought to transcend the flatness of traditional painting and integrate space and dimension into the canvas itself. Born in 1899 in Rosario, Argentina, and later active in Milan, Fontana developed his signature style in the late 1940s and 1950s, most notably through his "Concetto Spaziale" series. These works are characterized by their clean, monochromatic surfaces, punctuated by precise slashes or holes that redefine the canvas as a three-dimensional object. His innovative approach had a profound impact on post-war art and paved the way for conceptual and minimalist movements. This work belongs to the defining period when Fontana articulated his concept of spatial art by cutting directly into the canvas, creating real rather than illusory depth. The clean, vertical slashes introduce an entirely new perception of space, turning the canvas into an active, breathing object. The red monochrome surface intensifies the drama of the cuts, allowing the contrast between materiality and void to become the core aesthetic tension. The precision and rhythm of the incisions reveal Fontana's sculptural sensibility, where each gesture is deliberate, balanced, and elegant.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.

Additional photographs and condition reports may be provided upon request as a courtesy only.
