Gilt-Silver, Garlic-Mouth Form with High-Relief Hellenistic Mythological Scenes. <br><br>H:18.5cm W:15.5cm Wt:835.9g<br><br>Gilt-silver garlic-mouth vase, Sasanian-Persian royal manufacture, 5th-7th-century, circulated eastwards via the Silk Road. It possesses a characteristic garlic-shaped flared mouth, its rim chased with continuous scrolling foliage. A short neck leads to the shoulder encircled by a row of prominent rounded bosses. The bulbous main body is decorated in high repouss?? relief with a Hellenistic mythological banqueting scene; figures are shown in fluid postures with finely rendered drapery, iconographic heritage from post-Alexandrian Greek culture. The lower body is chased with petal motifs. Deep ancient patina covers the silver surface with patchy residual gilding. Sasanian Persia inherited Hellenistic artistic traditions after Alexander's conquests. Luxury silver vessels carrying classical mythological imagery travelled widely through Eurasian trade and cultural exchange. This vase preserves authentic Sasanian metal-work typology and iconography, executed with masterful repouss??-chasing technique. The rare subject-matter makes it a key artefact for studying cross-continental ancient cultural contact.
