Excellent selection of a 1984 “Verbot” robotic toy, produced by TOMY. This is a classic 9-inch tall, voice-controlled programmable robot that operates with an analog voice-command system. This allowed its users to train it to execute eight different movements. The toy was born out of the mid 1980s consumer robotics craze. The Verbot directly was a major novelty for its era because it featured speaker-dependent voice recognition handled by a Mitsubishi microcontroller. While the toy faded from production by the late 1980s, the Verbot remains a highly nostalgic symbol of retro-futurism and is widely celebrated today by tech hobbyists for its mechanical design. The robot itself appears very complete and is accompanied by its original controller. The unit takes 4 AA batteries, 2 C batteries, and one 9V battery, showcasing that it was complex in operation. There is some slight yellowing on the robot due to the age of the item. The robot is directly untested.
