Yoshitoshi, Tsukioka (Japanese 1839-1892). Woodblock print. Toki Daishiro Fighting a Demon. 13 5/8" x 8 7/8" (Sheet). 21 3/4" x 14 3/4" (Frame). Toki Daishiro - title label for print from 1865 series One Hundred Ghost Stories from China and Japan (Wakan Huaku Monogatari). Artist's signature cartouche in red gourd shape outline (Painted by Ikkaisai Yoshitoshi. Publisher's mark - faint rectangle - Tsukiji Daikin, Edo-period publisher Daikokuya Kinjiro (modern day Tokyo). Sheet has been trimmed of original margins, no date or censor seals are intact. Artwork appears to have been part of a 19thC accordian-fold collector's album. Mid to late 20thC frame, mat board fixed to fabric covered backing.
