The painting depicts Tsar Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia. He is depicted wearing a traditional late 19th / early 20th-century dark Russian imperial military uniform. The bold blue sash draped over his right shoulder represents the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, the highest order of the Russian Empire.His chest features a bar of highly detailed military honors and campaign medals rendered in red, white, yellow, and blue ribbons. The metallic presentation plate below the portrait is engraved with "TSAR NICHOLAS II" along with "-1868-ex 1918", which marks the historical year of his birth
