“The Prince” Burmese Kalaga Gold Embroidered Tapestry – Shadowbox Framed, Singapore Gallery Mounted. Dimensions: 42” H x 42” W x 2.75 D. The shadowbox presentation is absolutely first-class, with the black raw silk background completely wrapped on back and sides. Hanging hardware is heavy-duty, and the backing is solid wood. Excellent condition, including the overlay protective glass. Kalaga textiles are: -Built from layers of fabric (felt, velvet, cotton) -Then hand-embroidered with gold thread, sequins, beads -Figures are often slightly raised/padded, giving a 3D effect This technique creates a rich, almost jewel-like surface. It’s part of the traditions of goldwork embroidery, which have existed in Asia for thousands of years. This is an especially nice example of the Kalaga technique. If shipped, will be sent via "White Glove" delivery service.
