Isaac Maimon (Israeli, b. 1951), Parasol, also known as Woman with Parasol, from the Café Carnivale series, circa 1994. Substantial patinated and cold-painted bronze sculpture, signed "Maimon" with copyright mark and individually numbered 62/150 on the integral bronze base; an additional INT'L LTD. inscription is present along the base. Measuring 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 18 1/2" high.

A particularly elaborate example of Isaac Maimon's celebrated café-society imagery translated into three-dimensional form, depicting an elegant seated woman beneath an expansive parasol. The composition captures the sophisticated, theatrical atmosphere for which Maimon's work is best known: the sitter's elongated pose, crossed legs, black stockings and gilt high-heeled shoes are balanced by the sweeping folds of her skirt, scrolling café chair and dramatic canopy above. The figure is enriched throughout with a complex polychrome surface of turquoise, cobalt blue, violet, rose, gold and warm bronze tones, with finely modeled floral embellishments and a patterned terrace beneath her feet.

Maimon's paintings and sculpture are closely associated with cosmopolitan café culture, fashionable interiors and elegantly dressed figures, drawing upon the visual romance of European boulevard life and the enduring imagery of Parisian Belle Époque society. In Parasol, those themes acquire unusual sculptural presence: the broad umbrella creates a commanding silhouette, while the figure, chair, drapery and architectural base produce a composition intended to be appreciated fully in the round.

The limited edition of only 150 examples, substantial 18 1/2-inch height, richly articulated surface and instantly recognizable female café subject make this a particularly appealing work within Maimon's sculptural oeuvre. It has strong crossover interest for collectors of Isaac Maimon, Israeli art, contemporary figurative sculpture, limited edition bronze, patinated bronze, cold-painted bronze, polychrome sculpture, female figure sculpture, café society art and sophisticated decorative bronzes.

Condition appears excellent overall, retaining strong and visually vibrant coloration. Extremely minor surface rubbing, handling marks, abrasions and localized wear to the patinated and cold-painted finishes. No breaks, chips, cracks, substantial loss or significant deformation.
