A visually commanding and richly layered hand-embellished giclee in color on canvas by Michael Godard, hand-signed in pigment by the artist and individually numbered from the principal limited edition of 450. This substantial framed example is accompanied by its Park West Gallery Certificate of Authenticity, a 2023 Park West Gallery appraisal stating a retail replacement value of $4,150 USD, and related Park West collector correspondence.<br><br>One of Godard's most elaborate art-historical compositions, Da Vinci's Window reimagines the world of Leonardo da Vinci through the artist's distinctive contemporary visual vocabulary. At the center of the composition, Godard transforms his signature anthropomorphic olive figure into a bearded Renaissance master wearing a deep blue cap, seated within a fantastical studio crowded with references to art, invention, mathematics, architecture, science, and creative discovery.<br><br>The composition incorporates immediately recognizable references to Leonardo's Mona Lisa and Vitruvian Man, together with an aged portrait of Leonardo, manuscript-style writing, drafting instruments, geometric forms, rolled studies, books, pigments, models, and workshop materials. Godard layers these Renaissance references with his own recurring martini and olive imagery, including a cocktail held by the central figure and another playfully introduced into the Mona Lisa passage.<br><br>Additional symbolic details include square-and-compasses imagery, celestial motifs, scattered pigments, drawing implements, books, architectural studies, and mechanical forms. These elements give the work a densely constructed, almost puzzle-like quality, encouraging prolonged examination and rewarding the viewer with successive discoveries across the composition.<br><br>Rather than simply quoting Renaissance imagery, Godard recasts Leonardo's legendary identity as artist, inventor, observer, and polymath through a humorous contemporary lens. The result is both immediately accessible and unusually intricate, combining historical homage, visual wit, Pop-inflected imagery, and the artist's highly recognizable cocktail-culture iconography.<br><br>Godard's distinctive green signature appears prominently at the lower right, accompanied by gold-colored edition notation. The work is documented as number 248 of a numbered edition size of 450.<br><br>The certificate further records the work as originating from an Arabic-numbered edition of 450 examples, with additional separately designated European artist proofs, artist proofs, hors commerce proofs, printer proofs, and bon à tirer proofs also issued.<br><br>A corresponding Park West Gallery appraisal dated January 20, 2023 bears the same registration number, title, artist, date, dimensions, medium, and edition information and states a Park West Gallery retail replacement value of $4,150 USD.
