A substantial collection of nine vintage works after paintings by celebrated Canadian artist James Lumbers, including scarce Artist's Proof impressions, pencil-signed and numbered limited editions, and several of the artist's highly recognizable historical, rural, railway, fishing, romantic and "past-to-present" subjects.

Lumbers is especially associated with atmospheric compositions in which carefully rendered contemporary landscapes and interiors are inhabited by translucent figures from an earlier generation. Throughout this collection, fishermen return to familiar waters, former occupants reappear at abandoned homesteads, wedding memories linger across generations, an historic steam locomotive materializes beside a modern railway crossing, and vanished congregants once again populate the ruins of a church. The recurring interplay between the tangible present and remembered past gives the group unusual visual and thematic coherence.

Of particular collector interest are the low-number Adrift A/P 3/40, The Meeting Place A/P 64/75, an Artist's Proof of Dunrowan, Mr. Emmet's Fishin' Hole 167/200, and A Game of Checkers 802/950. Several works are pencil-signed by James Lumbers and retain handwritten edition inscriptions and embossed seals. Together, the group presents a broad survey of the nostalgic historical imagery for which Lumbers is best known, encompassing Canadian lake country, rural life, early transportation, agricultural history, domestic memory, architectural ruins and spiritual remembrance.

The collection comprises:

An Enchanted Evening - An evocative nocturnal composition depicting a spectral young couple beneath a ruined stone garden arch, surrounded by mature trees and illuminated by moonlight. The image bears the signature and date "James Lumbers '90" within the composition and is titled An Enchanted Evening beneath the image. Publisher information identifies James Lumbers Publishing Ltd., Markham, Canada, with Classic Moments and 1998 James Lumbers Enterprises Ltd. copyright information. No separate pencil signature or handwritten edition number is visible in the photograph supplied.

Adrift - Artist's Proof A/P 3/40 - One of the strongest collector pieces in the group. A weathered wooden rowboat carrying the translucent figure of a fisherman drifts before a traditional lakeside boathouse, creating a particularly effective example of Lumbers' signature juxtaposition of memory and present-day landscape. Hand-inscribed A/P 3/40 at lower left, pencil-signed by James Lumbers at lower right and accompanied by an embossed seal. The image bears the signature and date "James Lumbers '86." Published by Simon Art Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The exceptionally low-numbered Artist's Proof edition adds considerably to its desirability within the collection.

The Meeting Place - Artist's Proof A/P 64/75 - A finely detailed rural scene centered upon an aging farmhouse, hand-operated water pump, wagon an
