Cardinal Book-Prop, Green Painted Metal Folding Book Stand/Holder with Original Illustrated Box. Made by Chas. Fischer Spring Co., Brooklyn, N.Y. Art Deco Style Box with 'Read - Play and Sketch - Freely!' Tagline Book prop is green painted metal, folds flat, with adjustable clamp mechanism. Appears complete and functional. The green paint shows some wear and light surface oxidation but is mostly intact. The original box is the real showstopper: gorgeous Art Deco illustrations showing a man reading in a chair, a woman at a desk, someone reading in bed, and a person at a piano. Box shows wear, edge softening, some staining, and minor tears but the graphics are vibrant and mostly intact. Back of box has full usage instructions and lists available colors: Black, Green, Mahogany, and Chromium. Before there were tablets, there was this: a metal contraption that held your book so you could smoke a pipe and read at the same time. Peak mid-century multitasking.
