"Green Laurels: The Lives and Achievements of the Great Naturalists" by Donald Culross Peattie, published 1936 by The Literary Guild, New York (Simon and Schuster copyright). This hardcover volume traces the biographies of history's great naturalists, from Linnaeus onward, and includes period photographic plates, including a lovely portrait of Charles Darwin (by John Collier) and a monument to Linnaeus in Chicago's Lincoln Park. The book carries a wonderful bit of provenance: an inscription on the front endpaper reading "With best wishes to George E. Skinney, Samuel H. Hyde, Sept. 1, 1941," gifting a nice layer of history to this already historically-minded book. Bound in green cloth with gilt titling to the spine. No dust jacket present. A great addition for collectors of natural history literature, vintage science biography, or antiquarian books with personal inscriptions. Condition: Overall good antique condition. Cloth covers show general wear, soiling, and fading to the spine with some sunning; text block shows scattered foxing/age spotting throughout, particularly noted on the endpapers. Binding is solid and tight. No dust jacket. Please examine all photos closely for condition. We do our best to note visible flaws, but some imperfections may not be captured. Keywords: Green Laurels Peattie 1936, vintage naturalist biography book, antique science history book, Literary Guild first edition, Charles Darwin portrait book, inscribed vintage hardcover, natural history collectible book, 1930s scientific biography, antiquarian nature book, vintage green cloth hardcover
