SEBASTIAN ERARD DOUBLE-ACTION PEDAL HARP

English, second quarter 19th century. An impressive double-action pedal harp by Sebastian Erard, 18 Great Marlborough Street, London, one of the foremost harp and pianoforte makers of the period. Erard's patented double-action mechanism, introduced in 1810, was a landmark development that helped establish the form of the modern concert harp. The elaborate gilt Gothic Revival casework incorporates figural niches, foliate ornament and sculptural feet, with a richly figured wooden soundbox and complex brass-and-iron mechanism. Maker's inscription and patent number appear on the brass action plate. Provenance: David Bausch Collection. 70" h. Needs some TLC: re-stringing and tuning, there is some minor preservation to wooden areas as expected given age, (Very Good to Excellent Condition)
