paper. Title: Coastal Seascape with Sailboats beneath a Luminous Sky Technique: Watercolor on paper Measures: 16 x 13 inches Year: Circa late-19th century Impressionist period Condition: Good. The watercolor presents vibrant coloration, layered brushwork, and strong visual clarity. Minor handling wear and light age-related toning may be present, consistent with the medium. The sheet appears structurally sound and is presented in a decorative black wood frame with gold-tone detailing. An inscription appears in the lower-right portion of the composition.Provenance: Private collection, France. Reportedly acquired during the early 1950s by Dr. Louis Deschamps, a collector based in Aix-en-Provence. The work remained in the Deschamps family estate until 1998, when it passed by inheritance to his granddaughter, Colette Deschamps-Blanc. In 2012, it was reportedly consigned to Galerie Montclair in Paris before being acquired by the current owner. This ownership history was reported by the consignor; supporting records have not been independently verified.Visual Description: An atmospheric coastal scene depicting two small sailboats crossing an expansive body of water beneath a luminous, color-filled sky. Layered passages of blue, turquoise, lavender, pink, yellow, and white create shimmering movement across the water and clouds. A distant range of low mountains extends along the horizon, separating the glowing sky from the sea. In the lower foreground, a small coastal dwelling emerges among dark foliage, providing a quiet human presence within the broad landscape. The loose brushwork and shifting reflections capture the changing qualities of light, weather, and color across the open water. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
