He graduated from the Voroshilovograd Art School in 1973. From 1973 to 1979, he studied at the Kiev State Art Institute in the workshop of Professor A.M. Lopukhov. He is the brother of the Ukrainian artist Lyudmila Nikolaevna Zakharova. He works in easel and monumental painting. He has participated in numerous art exhibitions. He left Ukraine in the mid-1990s. The artist's works are represented in gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
