Make: Remington Model: No. 2 Rolling Block Caliber: NVC Action: Falling Block Barrel: 25 Bore: Shiny Serial # 2004 Condition: Good Antique 1870s E. Remington & Sons No. 2 Sporting Rolling Block Rifle. Manufactured in Ilion, NY, this single-shot rifle features a rare, early serial number 2004 and a 25-inch full octagon barrel. The receiver displays the complete multi-line Remington patent sequence concluding with the September 9, 1873 date, while the top barrel flat bears the crisp, correct "E. Remington & Sons" stamp. Mechanically, the classic rolling block action operates smoothly, and both the hammer and breechblock lock up tightly. The original metalwork retains a beautiful, age-matured gray-brown patina with exceptionally clear markings, and the rifle features no external caliber stamp, which is factory-correct for this production era. The original walnut stock set is in solid condition with honest historical handling wear, perfectly complemented by the elegant, factory-correct Schnabel forearm tip and a crescent metal buttplate. This is an exceptional, unmolested example of a 19th-century American small-frame sporting rifle. Please see the photos.
