Confederate cavalry saber produced by the Ames Manufacturing Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts, marked on the ricasso. patterned after the US Model 1840. Features a single-edged curved blade with fuller, gilt brass hilt, and wood grip with original leather and wire wrap. Blade shows aged patina with signs of sharpening and use. Includes steel M1840-type scabbard, likely a period battlefield replacement, well-fitted with no internal movement. Shows wear and patina consistent with age. Approximate measurements: 37 7/8" overall length with a 32 1/4" blade; scabbard 37 3/4". A scarce Confederate example, suitable for advanced collection or display.
